Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Norns ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the Service.

2. Description of Service

Norns is a Software as a Service (SaaS) writing platform that provides authors with tools for organizing, writing, and publishing their work. The Service includes a markdown-based editor, book organization tools, AI-assisted writing features ("Ghost Writer"), and export capabilities for various publishing formats.

3. Account Responsibilities

When you create an account with us, you must:

  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials
  • Promptly update any information that changes
  • Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account

4. Subscription and Billing

Norns offers various subscription tiers. By subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to:

  • Pay all fees associated with your selected subscription plan
  • Authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis
  • Acknowledge that subscription fees are non-refundable except as required by law

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your complete payment card information on our servers.

5. Content Ownership

Your Content: You retain full ownership of all content you create, upload, or store on Norns. This includes your manuscripts, notes, world-building materials, and any other creative work.

By using the Service, you grant Norns a limited license to store, process, and display your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. We will never use your content for training AI models or share it with third parties without your explicit consent.

6. AI Usage Terms (Ghost Writer)

The Ghost Writer AI assistance feature is designed to help you write, not to write for you. When using Ghost Writer:

  • You maintain creative control and ownership of all output
  • AI suggestions are tools to assist your writing process
  • AI usage is tracked per segment for transparency
  • Token usage may be subject to markup based on your subscription tier
  • You may request attestation certificates documenting AI assistance levels

7. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Infringe on the intellectual property rights of others
  • Upload malicious code or attempt to breach security
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users
  • Use automated systems to access the Service without permission
  • Attempt to reverse engineer or extract source code from the Service

8. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your account at any time for violation of these Terms. You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings.

Upon termination, you will have the opportunity to export your content. After a reasonable period, your data may be deleted from our systems.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Norns shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim.

10. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of significant changes via email or through the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
