Author-first AI assistance

Built by an author who needed a better way to write. Norns puts your creative vision first.

The Story Behind Norns

Norns was born out of frustration. While writing a novel, I found myself bouncing between a dozen different tools: one for writing, another for outlining, a third for character tracking, and yet another for managing different drafts. None of them talked to each other, and none of them understood how authors actually work.

Then came the AI explosion. Suddenly, every writing tool wanted to write for me. Auto-complete suggestions would pop up mid-sentence, breaking my flow. AI features were shoved front and center, treating authors like we needed constant hand-holding.

I wanted something different. I wanted AI that behaved like a real ghost writer: there when I needed it, invisible when I didn't. A tool that respected my creative process instead of trying to replace it.

So I built Norns. The name comes from Norse mythology, the three fates who weave the threads of destiny. Fitting, I thought, for a tool that helps authors weave their stories.

Why "Ghost Writer"?

In the publishing world, a ghost writer is someone who helps an author bring their vision to life while staying invisible. The author's name goes on the cover. The author gets the credit. The ghost does the work and disappears.

That's exactly what AI should be for writers. Not a co-author shoving suggestions in your face, but a silent partner ready to help when called. Brainstorm with it. Ask for feedback. Let it draft a section. But the story remains yours.

"The best tools are invisible. They don't demand attention. They just work when you need them."

The Name

In Norse mythology, the Norns are three figures who weave the threads of fate for all beings. Urd, Verdandi, and Skuld represent the past, present, and future.

Every story is a tapestry of threads: characters, plot, theme, setting. Authors are weavers of fate, deciding how each thread intertwines. Norns is the loom that helps you weave.
